CBSE Tentative Exam Schedule 2027

CBSE 2027 Tentative Exam Schedule: What Is Confirmed and What Is Still Expected

Posted by

Quick answer

As of 7 October 2026, CBSE has not published the CBSE 2027 tentative exam schedule. We checked cbse.gov.in directly, and its latest exam-related notices are the List of Candidates circulars. The final subject-wise CBSE board exam timetable 2027 is not out either. Class 10 and Class 12 board exams are expected to begin in February 2027, and the second Class 10 exam is expected in May 2027. These months come from last year’s pattern and are not official CBSE dates.

Where things stand today

Item Status
Class 10 date sheet 2027 Not released
Class 12 date sheet 2027 Not released
Official release date Not announced by CBSE
List of Candidates (LOC) submission CBSE circular dated 21 September 2026; regular window opened 24 September; deadline without late fee reported as 21 October (17 October for challan payment)

Class 10 second exam Expected May 2027
Class 12 exam Expected from February 2027, running into March or April
Practical exams Expected November to December 2026 for winter-bound schools, January to February 2027 for the rest

Every ‘expected’ line above is an estimate by education portals, based on earlier years. Treat it as a planning guide until CBSE publishes its own notice.

What we know so far about the CBSE 2027 tentative exam schedule

The 2026-27 exam cycle has started on the board’s side. CBSE has opened the LOC process, in which schools send in the list of students who will appear. Its circular is dated 21 September 2026, and a CBSE press note of 29 September says the process covers students in nearly 32,000 affiliated schools across India and 26 countries. Sample question papers and marking schemes for this session are also out. What CBSE has not done is publish dates.

Last year gives a useful reference, but only that. CBSE issued the tentative 2026 date sheets on 24 September 2025, and the final date sheet followed on 30 October 2025, about 110 days before the exams began on 17 February 2026. In that final schedule, Class 10 exams ended on 10 March and Class 12 exams on 9 April, with papers starting at 10:30 AM. CBSE later issued revised date sheets for both classes on 31 December 2025, so even a final date sheet can change.

This year, the tentative sheet had not appeared by early October. So the board is running later than last year’s timeline, partly because the LOC circular itself came later: 27 August 2025 last year, 21 September 2026 this year. Nobody outside CBSE can say whether the exams will start on the same date. At the time, CBSE had also said its tentative dates would be firmed up once schools submitted their final candidate lists.

How long CBSE takes after the LOC circular varies a lot. In 2025, the tentative date sheet followed the LOC circular by four weeks (27 August to 24 September). In 2024, the date sheet came on 20 November, about eleven weeks after the LOC circular of 5 September. So the gap is a pattern to watch, not a promise.

LOC deadlines for 2026-27, and why they matter

The List of Candidates is the step that comes just before the date sheet, which is why schools and parents watch its deadlines closely. CBSE’s circular is dated 21 September 2026, after a prior intimation on 10 September. Education portals report the schedule like this:

Step Reported date
LOC portal opens 24 September 2026
Last date without late fee, digital payment 21 October 2026
Last date without late fee, challan payment 17 October 2026
Late-fee window, digital payment 22 to 30 October 2026
Late-fee window, challan payment 22 to 26 October 2026
Late fee ₹2,000 per student, on top of the regular fee
Data correction window 2 to 4 November 2026

These dates come from portal reports of the circular, not from the circular text, so schools should confirm them on cbse.gov.in. The portal is reported to close at 11:59 PM on each last date, with no extension.

Here is why this matters for you. Last year, the LOC correction window closed on 27 October 2025, and the final date sheet came three days later, on 30 October. If CBSE follows the same order this year, the final sheet would come after the correction window, which is reported as 2 to 4 November 2026. That is an inference from last year’s order, not an announcement. Portals currently expect the tentative sheet in October and the final subject-wise sheet in October or November, and CBSE has confirmed neither.

CBSE board exam timetable 2027: expected dates at a glance

Until the notice comes out, this is the most that can be said honestly:

  • Class 10, main exam: expected in February to March 2027.
  • Class 10, second exam: expected in May 2027. CBSE introduced two board exams for Class 10 from 2026, and the second one is reported to work as a chance to improve your score.
  • Class 12: expected to begin in February 2027, with some subjects running into March or April depending on your stream and subject combination.
  • Practicals: expected in November and December 2026 for winter-bound schools, and January and February 2027 for other schools. Your school will give you your own practical dates, and those matter more than any website.

No website, including this one, can honestly give you a subject-wise date for Physics, Maths, English or any other paper today.

Class 10: two board exams, one plan

If you are in Class 10, plan for both exams rather than treating the first one as a trial. Use the main exam to find the subjects that need work, and keep the second exam in mind as an improvement option. Check your school’s circular for how to register for the second exam when CBSE announces the process, because the rules are set by the board and can change from year to year. For reference, in 2026 CBSE published the second exam date sheet on 23 April, released its admit cards on 5 May and declared its results on 18 July.

Class 12: streams and subject combinations

Class 12 date sheets cover Science, Commerce and Humanities together, and the gap between your subjects depends on your combination. Last year CBSE said it prepared the schedule so that no two subjects taken by the same student fall on one day, and that it considered entrance exam dates while setting the end of the exams. The same approach is likely this time, but it is not confirmed. CBSE also issues a separate date sheet for Class 12 students taking part in national or international sports events. Last year it was dated 28 March 2026.

Exam format: written papers, digital evaluation

CBSE theory papers are written, pen-and-paper exams held at exam centres, and we found no announcement of a change for 2027. What did change in 2026 is evaluation. CBSE introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) for Class 12 answer books, through a circular dated 9 February 2026. Students still write on paper, and the marking of scanned answer books happens on screen. Treat any claim about ‘online board exams’ as a rumour unless it appears on cbse.gov.in.

How to check the official date sheet when it is out

  1. Open cbse.gov.in.
  2. Go to the Examination Circulars page on cbse.gov.in, which lists notices by date.
  3. Find the date sheet notice. Last year’s were titled ‘Tentative Date Sheets for Board Examinations Classes X and XII’ and ‘Date Sheet for Class X and XII for Board Examinations’, so look for similar wording.
  4. Open the PDF and check the subject name, subject code, date, day and timing.
  5. Save a copy, and check your own subject codes against your admit card details.

Once the CBSE 2027 tentative exam schedule appears, remember that it is tentative. Final dates can change after the board completes the candidate list.

Fake date sheets: how to spot them

Every year, a ‘date sheet’ goes viral on WhatsApp and Instagram weeks before the board releases anything. In 2022, for example, CBSE’s Controller of Examinations had to call a circulating Class 12 date sheet fake, even though its dates were close to the real expected dates. The official date sheet followed on 29 December 2022, about two months later. CBSE has also issued public advisories against misleading information on social media, most recently in March 2026. So a circulating CBSE board exam timetable 2027 image or PDF should be treated as unofficial unless you can find the same notice on cbse.gov.in.

A few quick checks:

  • If the file is not on cbse.gov.in, it is not the official one.
  • If it arrived as a forward with no circular number or date, be careful.
  • If it matches your teacher’s guess or last year’s dates, that proves nothing.
  • Do not enter personal details on any site that promises to ‘unlock’ the date sheet.

What to do while you wait

  • Practise with the 2026-27 sample papers and marking schemes, which are already out.
  • Plan revision by subject strength rather than by date. When the date sheet arrives, adjust the order using the gaps between papers.
  • Ask your school to check your name, date of birth and subject combination in the LOC. CBSE has stressed correctness at this stage and issued a circular on correcting demographic details on 23 September 2026.
  • Do not drop your regular classes or preparation because a social media page says the exams start on a particular day.
